TPP Board votes to support Star Lab
More than 10 years ago, The Partnership Plan purchased two Star Labs to teach students about astronomy. These large, inflated domes allow students to crawl inside and experience the wonder of the stars in the middle of the day. It’s safe to say that any student who has gone through elementary school in the District has had the joy of being in the Star Lab, and it’s often one of their favorite memories of school.
But the experience is only as good as the teacher, and no one brings more knowledge and passion for astronomy than retired elementary teacher Mark Magnan. Schools have been clamoring for his services ever since they realized how excited students get about learning when they’re in his capable hands. TPP will pay for the Star Lab experience for all elementary school students for the 2018-19 school year.
This grant is made possible in part from an endowment established by former elementary school 3M Visiting Wizard Bill Lundquist. When elementary teacher Amy Tibbetts heard that we were going to fund the Star Lab, she wrote us this letter of thanks that also contains some history about how the Star Labs got up and running.
